Evaluation for MTBI and DAI by using Voxel-Based Diffusion Tensor Imaging

چکیده
Introduction: In Japan, there are approximately 280,000 new cases of traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year, with at least 80% being classified as mild. The diagnosis and management of mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) continues to be the subject of debate, with varying opinions regarding the extent to which organically based impairments vs the impact of other stressors cause ongoing disability. Detecting areas of the brain with abnormalities that can explain symptoms and behavior in patients with MTBI is important in order to confirm the diagnosis of MTBI. Several studies have recently reported the effectiveness of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for evaluation of diffuse axonal injury (DAI) and MIBI. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), a relatively novel MRI technique, is designed to detect more extensive abnormalities than conventional MRI in patients with severe head injury, and the findings of DTI have been reported to correspond with clinically determined neurological deficit. In this study, we make the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC, λ ⊥ , and λ ∥ )) maps and the fractional anisotropy (FA) maps calculated from DTI in control group. And we compared each maps in MIBI group and DAI group with these.

Determination of Fiber Direction in High Angular Resolution Diffusion Images using Spherical Harmonics Functions and Wiener Filter
Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) MRI is a noninvasive imaging method of the cerebral tissues whose fibers directions are not evaluated correctly in the regions of the crossing fibers. For the same reason the high angular resolution diffusion images (HARDI) are used for estimation of the fiber direction in each voxel. One of the main methods to specify the direction of fibers is usage of the spher...
متن کاملDiffusion Tensor Imaging in Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries – Acute State and Short-Term Recovery Corresponding author:
Mild traumatic brain injuries (MTBI), in most cases, cannot be detected using imaging modalities like CT or MRI. However, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) reveals subtle changes in white matter integrity as a result of head trauma and plays an important role in refining diagnosis and management of MTBI. We use DTI to detect the microstructural changes in collegial football players induced by axon...
متن کاملQuantification of the temporal change of diffusion patterns following mild traumatic brain injury Authors
Despite the emerging applications of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) [1,4], there is a lack of longitudinal investigation on the evolution of diffusion based patterns in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), which may help to predict the recovery and assist in studying the long term impact caused by mTBI. Although the newly developed DTI techniques, such as voxel-wise analysis, region of interest ...
متن کاملVoxel-based analysis of diffusion tensor imaging in mild traumatic brain injury in adolescents.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE DTI of normal-appearing WM as evaluated by conventional MR imaging in mTBI has the potential to identify important regional abnormalities that relate to PCS. VBA was used to examine WM changes in acute mTBI. MATERIALS AND METHODS WM was assessed between 1 and 6 days postinjury with voxel-based DTI analyses in 10 adolescent patients with mTBI and 10 age-matched control p...
